I’ll be the first to tell you I’m not a big movie person and if you list off five movies, you’ll be lucky if I’ve even seen two. However, I’d be lying if I said movie don’t impact my existence. There are several movies that I talk, think, and rave about frequently and I’ve been looking for a way to bring them to the blog for awhile now.
So naturally, when I came across the “I Dressed Like ______ for a Week” trend on YouTube, I knew what I had to do. And here we are, a week later, with my “I Dressed Like Characters from my Favorite Movies” post in front of your face. I have curated looks and edited the photos in a way that is as closest to the movie as possible! Here we go…
Oliver // CALL ME BY YOUR NAME
My all-time favorite movie (besides Harry Potter, of course) is Call Me By Your Name. The artistic elements as well as the content is beautiful and the end of the movie leaves me with the perfect mixture of melancholy, nostalgia, and soft smiles. CMBYN is sent in 80’s Italy and follows the bliss summer romance between two boys. All the outfits are collared, the shorts are shorter (hey, it’s the 80s!), and pastel summer colors are all the rage. Here’s my take on one of the main characters, Oliver:

Liesl // THE SOUND OF MUSIC
However basic this opinion may be, The Sound of Music is my favorite musical. I’m obsessed with the true story of a singing family of 8 Austrian children during World War II and the setting is gorgeous. One day I will travel to Austria solely to feel as if I’m in this movie, but for now I’ll have to settle for dressing up as Liesl in her “16 going on 17” scene.

Andy // THE GOONIES
The Goonies is an 80’s classic that I’ve loved since middle school. In it, your typical, rag-tag group of kids goes off on an adventure for treasure and gets wrapped up with some criminals. My 12 year-old self thought Andy, the main girl, was the prettiest person ever and so I thought why not be Andy for a day?

Mia // LA LA LAND
There’s something about La La Land that draws me in. I get an overwhelming sense of calm while watching a wannabe actress and a wannabe jazz pianist find their way through LA together. The soundtrack and atypical Hollywood ending are masterpieces. Mia, the main character, has the unabashed-ness and spunk that I want for myself. Thus, I channeled her for my La La Land look.

Mia // PRINCESS DIARIES
If you’ve watched Princess Diaries, at one point in your life you’ve probably wished that your grandma would show up and tell you all about how you’re secretly a princess and it’s time for you to be crowned like Mia’s grandma did. Alas, life doesn’t always end up that way, so we end up stuck dressing up as Mia in her school uniform with a crown in her bushy hair.

Freddie Mercury // BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY
I saved the best for last. Bohemian Rhapsody is a movie that loosely follows the life and times of the infamous band Queen’s lead singer, Freddie Mercury. I’ve watched it twice in the past month which has only increased my desire to time travel, reincarnate, and be Freddie Mercury. Although all of his outfits are absolutely stellar, I chose his look from when he performed at Live AID to recreate. I couldn’t stop singing Queen songs and may or may not have felt like I was Freddie Mercury during the whole shoot…

And with that, the curtain falls closed on my week of dressing up like movie characters. I hope you all enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed creating it and let me know in the comments if you want me to do another fun week of outfits like this 😉 Thanks so much for reading!!
💜Love, Olivia
