Music is a part of my daily life, and is the perfect thing to represent any mood you may be feeling. I mean, what’s better than a song that captures your exact feelings in that moment? I love almost any type of good music playlists, but as everyone else does, I too have my favorites. My favorite songs are the ones that make me feel a certain emotion that connects with a specific memory in my life. Being washed over with music and really feeling it is something special.
Today I’m sharing 10 songs off my January playlist that make me feel everything from easy love and powerful to confused and at loss. Make sure to click the link below each of my descriptions to listen to the song yourself!

Easy Love: “24 / 7 / 365” by Surfaces
Favorite Lyrics: I said girl, you’ve got it set in stone / If you lay the mat, I’ll call you home / I’ll make you mine and you’ll never be alone
This is definitely the catchiest song I’ve featured on the blog and it reminds me of a warm breeze while you’re waiting to be picked up by a friend or significant other for an exciting summer evening. There’s no pressure to look nice or put on an act as the evening will be calm and that perfect summer night you see in movies.
Bittersweet: “Sign” by VHS Collection
Favorite Lyrics: I’m halfway out of New York / And half of me I left behind
“Sign” is one of those songs that signifies that restless feeling that makes you want to immediately run back to the place or person you just left. It makes me think of all the times I have moved on from something and known that I don’t have any other choice, but I don’t want to move on all the same.

Screw It: “Crush Culture” by Conan Gray
Favorite Lyrics: Crush culture makes me wanna spill my guts out / I know what you’re doin’, trying to get me to pursue ya
Dealing with crushes can be fun, but can get frustrating super fast. I cannot get over how well Conan Gray captures the feeling of being over and done with crushing and how it can make you feel. Highly recommend this song when you’re in a “screw it” mood.
New Beginnings: “Peach” by Broods
Favorite Lyrics: All the more I know, the less I feel right
I love the easy dance “Peach” can leave you doing and how just like biting into a cool peach, the song can leave you feeling refreshed and like you deserve a new beginning. It’s a fun swaying song and I love listening to it in the morning.

Nostalgia: “Saw You in a Dream” by The Japanese House
Favorite Lyrics: I’m starting to believe that when I call your name / You just don’t hear me anymore
Similar to “Sign”, this song can make you very reflective, but in a more looking-back-on-the-past type of way. “Saw You in A Dream” makes me relive fond memories of different times in my life that I love to regale from time to time 🙂
Loss: “Postcard” by Troye Sivan ft. Gordi
Favorite Lyrics: I remember that night that you first called me crazy / Only you picked it up
Everyone has that one song that never fails to make them cry… “Postcard” is that for me. I relate to the song in an indirect, yet such a substantial way that it really reaches through to me. Troye Sivan sings about loss as it happens in a beautiful and elegant way that is unlike any other song I’ve come across.

Powerful: “Yellow Flicker Beat” by Lorde
Favorite Lyrics: They used to shout my name, now they whisper it
“Yellow Flicker Beat” and its detailed lyrics and hardcore beat makes me want to stomp and show off my power every time I listen. The song screams defiance and gives off so many ready-to-take-on-the-world vibes. Plus, what would an Absolutely Olivia playlist post be without a Lorde song?
Bored: “Presumably Dead Arm (617 Sessions)” by Sidney Gish
Favorite Lyrics: i wanna know the lyrics that you think of when you’re high
When listening to this song, I imagine a girl with her head in her hand looking impossibly bored, maybe even rolling her eyes from time-to-time. None of this is done in a negative way, but more of a life is strange, but so am I type of way. The lyrics are incredible, and Sidney Gish is hello, so talented!
LISTEN TO PRESUMABLY DEAD ARM (617 SESSIONS)

Confusion: “Stringsnoise” by Samuel Proffit and Yoke Lore
Favorite Lyrics: Before you get a heart, you gotta get taken apart
The first time I listened to “Stringsnoise” I was blown away by the insane beauty and sound, but also by how trippy (in a good way) the song was overall. This song is for when you’re having a less than okay day and need to take a break from the world for a bit.
Contentment: “Falling Water” by Maggie Rogers
Favorite Lyrics: I never loved you fully in the way I could
The only way I can explain this song and the level of contentment it makes me feel is by saying this: I sang this song while I walked around alone and barefoot at 6:30 am in 30 degree weather while in the mountains. I watched the sun rise and the sky change colors accordingly, while gazing upon the newly autumn-colored leaves. It’s such a lovely and soothing piece of music.

I hope you all enjoyed this January playlist post and that it inspires you to go out and find music that makes you feel!
