A couple weeks ago, I was at my wit’s end. My sleep schedule was sent way off track after a few nights in a row of staying up late, and I was working non-stop on my blog, Instagram, and schoolwork. I became super tired and unmotivated, which led to me not wanting to do anything at school or after school. Tennis was a nightmare, and my mood was not the brightest All of this piled on top of each other, and created a wayyy less than fabulous week.
And I’m sure this sounds somewhat familiar.
We’ve all had those weeks where one not-so-good thing after another keeps happening, and we feel stuck in an unmotivated rut. That’s why today I want to give you some tips to help you through whatever a rough week may throw at you! We’re all in this together, and I want to make sure you can find a way out of a tough week like I did. So keep reading to hear my top 5 tips for when life is is trying to knock you down.
SLEEP!
Okay, first we have to get to obvious one out of the way: SLEEP. I’ve always though of sleep as the biggest waste of time (I don’t really know why, it’s just insane to me that we spend 7-9 hours of our day doing it), but when you’re tired or stressed or feeling some sort of bad way, sleep is your best friend. Head to bed an hour or more earlier than you normally do, and wind down with something like a book. Be sure to leave your phone behind!! I had to force myself to bed when I knew I needed my sleep, but it was a serious game-changer for my mood and overall performance in daily tasks. Also, this isn’t a one night thing, it’ll take a few days of going to sleep earlier to get everything back on track.
DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF (or your physical appearance)
When you’re having a bad day/week, it’s vital to focus on only the important things. Being bogged down by the lesser details can make you doubtful, and feel like you’ll never get everything on your to-do list done. Be sure to cut out things that can be done later on, and don’t need your immediate attention because having a negative outlook when thinking about your to-dos is never good. Also, do not focus on small physical details like your hair, makeup, or outfit, as doing so can transport you into a deeper downward spiral.
My tips to still kill the game without taking up too much time?? Pick out a stylish athleisure look the night before, throw your hair into quick braids, and put on minimal makeup. Check out my 2 Hairstyles for Busy Gals and Running Late: Hair and Makeup for more tips on this.

PRACTICE CALMING TECHNIQUES
When you’re still in the heat of the week, and can’t find a way to slow your moody roll, take 10 minutes out of your day to practice a calming technique. Different ones work for different people, so if you already know yours, great! And if you don’t, try’em all to find the one that is best for you. Some of the more popular ones are journaling, meditating (use the app Headspace!!), praying, and doing yoga. A lot of times, a breather is all you need to get yourself back on track for the day, and calming exercises will do just that. Out of all the tips, I think this is one of the more important ones, as I use it ALL THE TIME!

Being outdoors for a little while can be just as calming as doing something indoors.
CANCEL YOUR PLANS
Concentrating on yourself and having alone time during bad weeks is extremely helpful, especially if you’re not sleeping well. Cancel your plans (you can always reschedule) on bad days, whether they’re a quick coffee catch-up in the morning, an afternoon hangout, a dinner, or any other activity. This leaves you some time to relax at home, or have quiet time to finish up a project that has been stressing you out. I’ve found that staying home can help calm the storm that is brewing in ya, and trust me, one time I didn’t cancel plans during a day I should’ve, and although I had fun, I 100% regret the decision to not stay home.
…BUT MAKE PLANS FOR THE WEEKEND
Yes, during the week it is best to have as much downtime as possible, but I highly recommend setting up bomb plans with your gal pals for the weekend! This can alleviate the hardcore worry you may have been feeling, and sometimes a fun day with friends is all you need to boost you back onto your #GIRLBOSS feet. During my bad week, I had an early Galentine’s party with all my girls, and it definitely reminded me that awful days don’t last forever. So go live it up on the weekend!

You would never know by looking at this photo that I had just gone through a bad week, and that’s the power of having fun with friends!

I love some yoga & pilates at the end of my day to un-wind 🙌🏻 I’m SO bad at keeping a sleep schedule & going to bed at a reasonable hour, lol. I love this!
