In my opinion, music is the window to someone’s soul, and today I want to give you all a little peek into my soul. It’s been a while since I’ve done a Love at First Listen, but hey, better late than never! Over the past few months, I have placed many new songs onto my Spotify playlists, and jamming out to them is my #1 favorite thing to do. I‘m sure you all love to do that too, so here I am with 8 of my most-listened to songs for you all to add to your own playlists!
“Never Be the Same” by Camila Cabello
Favorite Lyrics: And I’m a sucker for the way that you move, babe
With the way this song starts out in a low gravelly tone, I was hooked form the beginning. Never have I ever heard a singer that can go from such a low voice to a high voice as gracefully as Camila did! I highly recommend this to you if you want to listen to a pop song with sweet and sour tones like this one.
“Hunnie Pie” by Zella Day
Favorite Lyrics: The older we get, there’s an ocean of people in places we’ve chosen
Zella Day killed it with this song. Her Lana del Ray-esque crooning fits perfectly with the lyrics, and listening to it makes me want to sway slowly with my eyes closed. And those are some of my fav types of songs; I could get lost in her voice.
“Come Home” by BAYNK ft. Shallou
In my other Love at First Listen post, I had a song by BAYNK listed, and you’ll be glad to know I haven’t lost my love for his music. Normally, lyrics are what makes me fall for a song, but BAYNK’s don’t have a lot of words, so it’s the beat I love! It’s hard for me to describe it, but the light drip-droppy sounds are incredibly well-done in this song.
“Angels” by Khalid
Favorite Lyrics: I’ve been seeing angels in my living room/that have walked the sun/and have slept on the moon
Khalid has been at the forefront of music for the past couple of months, and after listening to him, it’s easy to see why. I loveee his “Young, Dumb, and Broke” song, but there’s a certain lull to “Angels” that is super special. It’s the perfect slow-down song and really gets in your feelings. Also, the lyrics are so poetic, which I always love for singers to do.
“Feelings” by Haley Kiyoko
Favorite Lyrics: This love asylum, like an island, just me and you
The beat at the beginning of this song is too good to be true, and the whole thing only gets better. It’s the best care-free dance song! As Haley begins the chorus, the tempo slows, making this song such a masterpiece. I’ve loved Haley for about two years now, and so far she hasn’t failed me 😉
“Island” by Wet
Favorite Lyrics: Two lines move me with their purpose/Forth and back, I fall off track
If any song makes me wish it was summer, it’s this one. While listening to it I can just imagine myself walking down the beach in a sundress with a light breeze and soft sunlight on my face. Sensory feelings like that don’t come with any old song, so this one is pretty special!
“Consequences” by Camila Cabello
Favorite Lyrics: Found loving you was sunshine, but then it poured
“Consequences” is different than Camila’s radio songs people are used to, but is still just as fantastic. It’s softer, and more of a sway song than a fast dance one. The slow build-up to the chorus you know is coming gives more time for the listener to grasp a hold of the song’s deep meaning. Ugh, it was love at first listen for me!
“Waterfall” by Petit Biscuit ft. Panama
Favorite Lyrics: Sometimes you’ve got to give things up/Sometimes you better not let go
This is another song that makes me miss summer (brb currently crying about the cold weather outside). The singing and beats are magnificent, and as I’m listening to it right now, I’m dancing. There’s so many highlights to this song; I can’t list them all!
As I was typing this post, I realized how many slow songs I’m loving at the moment. It must be the winter sadness getting me down 😉 I hope you all enjoyed this post, and were able to learn more about me just by my taste of music. I want to know what songs you all are loving lately, so be sure to let me know about them in the comments. Feel free to leave any questions or blog post ideas you may have as well. Thanks so much for reading friendzzz!!
💜Love, Olivia
