Last year, I always got to school pretty early. Well, at least for the first month or so. 🙂 As the school year progressed, I slowly arrived there later and later, until I was almost begging for the late bell to ring before I got to class! I know exactly what it’s like to have to scramble to get ready, especially with hair and makeup. If only we could all wake up with our eyelashes painted with mascara and our hair done up into the cutest style… but sadly, that’s not the case.
In this post, I will show my hair and makeup routine for days when I can’t seem to get out of bed in time. Honestly, I normally only wear mascara and fill in my eyebrows for school, but I do have those days when I’m feeling a full-face of makeup (which just happens to be the day in this post). I always love to do my hair though and I can’t wait to show you my new go-to simple hairstyle. So keep reading!
Here’s me in all my natural glory (besides my eyebrows, I have already filled them in a little bit, but you can see how I do it by checking out my Brow Routine 2017.):
After using my Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow in Blonde to do my brows, it’s time for some foundation.
When running late, I find it best to use a small amount and only focus on the areas that need it. Therefore, I made sure to cover my under eyes and nose to make my skin tone more even. Another way to quickly make your skin look better when on a time crunch is to only use concealer (no foundation) to cover up blemishes and your under eyes. I use the Maybelline Fit Me foundation in the shade Porcelain (I know, I know, I’m very pale!). I love this product so much as it leaves me looking dewy, and doesn’t have such heavy coverage that you can’t see your freckles!

Blending in my foundation with my trusty beauty blender.
I’m not a beauty guru, so I have no idea whether I do my makeup in the right order or not… but next up is a simple, one color, eye shadow look. I primed my eyes with my foundation (again, not a beauty guru), then quickly mixed the shades Chic and Indie from the Tarteist Pro Palette onto a crease brush. This just goes all over my eyes, especially in the crease. For me when I’m running late, I think it’s better to do one or two shades of eye shadow, instead of trying to create a whole look in the short amount of time you have. One thing you can do to make it look like you spent a bit more time on your makeup is to take an angled brush and blend some of the eye shadow underneath your eyes. This adds more of a smoky effect that can instantly elevate your look.
In the above picture, I also have on Vaseline Rosy Lips to give my lips some color and un-chap them. Having a colored chapstick on hand is key when running late because it is a 2-in-1!
Then, I applied mascara, the holy grail of makeup in my opinion, to my eyelashes, but not before curling them! Typically, I use two; the Sephora Collection Outrageous Volume Mascara and Maybelline New York Pumped Up Colossal Volume Express, but since we’re on a time crunch I chose the one that isn’t as dried out (whoops!) and called it a day.
After my eyelashes were painted to perfection, I gave my whole face a quick once-over with my Revlon translucent powder to ensure I don’t get too shiny during the day. I love this powder because it doesn’t leave you looking cakey, and you can easily wipe some off if you have to.
Last but certainly not least, I’ll finish this entire simple look with my Mario Badescu Rose Water to leave myself smelling good and to become officially wide awake for the day! I raved about this spray in my Summer Favorites, so if you want to know more go check out that post.
Now that the makeup is complete, hair is the next thing on the list. You hear all about hairstyles to do under 5 minutes, but this one is even better! I can do it in about 30 seconds flat and it can also be done when rushing out the door or waiting at a red light. I have been doing this low bun lots this summer and I know it will be absolutely perfect when running late during the school year! You simply pull your hair back into a ponytail and instead of pulling your hair all the way through, leave the ends tucked inside your hair tie. Take out some small front pieces to frame your face and viola! A minimal, chic hairdo has just been created.
Here is the complete finished look:
I feel like this post made my running late hair and makeup process seem pretty long, but I promise this whole thing took me a little under 8 minutes to complete! Plus, you can always modify my look to fit your own needs. Leave a comment letting me know what your routine looks like when your alarm clock doesn’t seem to go off in time and feel free to leave any questions or blog post ideas you may have. Thanks for reading!

This is a lovely and quick routine (: I don’t know how many times I rushed out for school when I was going, but now it’s opening for work almost everyday! I usually have to braid my hair to keep it calm though- I have too much to keep it in that cute bun haha

Aw that’s too bad! But braids are also such a great way to style your hair on the go. Thanks for reading!

Hahaha same! I’m always always always running late for pretty much everything! Seriously, most days I just go Alicia Keys-no makeup! But when i do feel like putting a lil somethin-somethin, I get a tan BB cream, some concealer for my acne, some cream blush, some mascara, and chapstick! Sometimes i’ll put bronzer for contour and maybe contour my eyes… but that’s almost never😂😂

I’m glad you liked this post! I’m not the best make-up person, but I will definitely try to do more… maybe a fall, bronzy eye look??? Stay tuned and thanks for letting me know this!

Love this! You look so pretty and definitely ready for the day 😉 I’m all about getting ready as quick as possible, there’s no way I’ll get up half an hour earlier to do my make up and hair for a simple school day! So thanks for sharing, Olivia!

Thanks, Elena! Yeah, I’m not about to sacrifice sacred sleep time just so my makeup and hair is on point. That’s why for the most part I normally only wear mascara and fill in my brows 🙂

I can’t believe you got that all done in eight minutes! I wish I could do the same haha but no matter how quick I try to be my make up takes at least 20 minutes 😂 Maybe I am just slow overall! Great look and routine xx

I do this routine a lot, so I pretty much have it down. It does take a bit of rushing and what you don’t see is the mascara I got all in my eyebrow!! Thanks for reading 🙂

I very rarely run late. Up too early and always have time for makeup. But alas the older I get the less makeup I seem to use. I usually start off with moisturizer in the morning. Go downstairs and have my coffee and then apply my eyeliner, and mascara (otherwise you cant see my eyes) some concealer and of course my lipstick. (Actually sometimes I apply lipstick in the car (when I park) because I actually forget.
