Even though summer is slowly and sadly winding down, the heat is still coming. August is typically one of the hottest months of the year and since it just began I figured it was a good time to put up this post all about how to stay cool, but still look cute. Believe it or not, there is a way besides t-shirts and athletic shorts to stop from overheating in the summer scorch. I’m here to help show you some ways to do beat the heat… in style!
WEAR BILLOWY TOPS AND SLEEVES
If you want to stay cool, avoiding tight-tight pieces is key. Instead, wear billowy pieces that air can easily flow through. For example, tops with bell sleeves or shirts with open bottoms work perfectly. I love wearing things like this for a night out in the summer when I’m going for a dressier look, but don’t want to be sweating through my shirt! Rompers and OTS tops also work well to, especially flowy ones. Here’s a couple ways I’ve styled this tip:
BUY LIGHTER MATERIALS AND COLORS
The colors part of this may be a given, but not everyone knows what materials keep you chilled. First, I’ll address the colors though. Pastels and whites are the way to go and blacks are a big no! Dark colors like navy, grays, and blacks absorb sunlight more than lighter ones, therefore making you hotter in the long run. Although, if you are in the mood for darks here are the materials you should wear them in. Linen, cotton, chambray are best, while silk, nylon, polyester, and rayon should be your second choice when choosing an outfit you don’t want to pass out in.
ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE!
Wearing plain clothes in the summer because you’re trying to beat the heat is in no way a crime. One way to spice up your simple outfit is to accessorize. Stack on the big rings and bracelets, put on those statement earrings, and layer your necklaces! I’ve gotten a lot more into accessories this summer, mainly because of the plain pieces I’ve been sporting. I recommend this because jewelry can’t make you much hotter than you already are.
WEAR SKIRTS AND DRESSES
Similar to wearing billowy tops; skirts and dresses are another great option. They can create an air flow that keeps you cool, and are normally light so you most likely won’t sweat as much. Not to mention skirts and dresses are the cutest, and I have been rocking everything from tulle skirts to denim overall dresses this season!
MAKE YOUR HAIR STAND OUT
It’s so easy in the summer to throw your hair into a basic ponytail or bun because that’s the quickest way to cool yourself off. If you know you’re going to be outside the majority of the day, invest a little more time into your hair, especially if your outfit is simple. You could wrap a strand of hair around your hair tie so it’s invisible, then throw on a headband, or upgrade your braid game with Bubble Braids. I always feel 100x better when my hairdo is on point, even if my outfit isn’t!
After reading this post, I hope you gained new knowledge on ways to beat the heat for good! I have definitely worked these tips into my everyday life and prevented lots of unfortunate pit stains from occurring. 😂 Let me know in the comments a way you keep your outfits cool for summer and feel free to leave any blog post ideas or questions you may have. I love hearing from you all, so don’t hesitate! Thanks for reading gals and guys 🙂
